Tel-Aviv-based design practice Pitsou Kedem Architects have completed the Pavilion 2012 project. The contemporary interior designed home can be found in Shoham, Israel. According to the architects: “A structure used by a real estate company as a sales office for a residential project they are building. The project examines the line between architecture, marketing and consumption. The project was to build, a sales office. The architect chose to relate to the project as a contemporary pavilion attempting to combine, within one building, modern, minimalistic, architectural principles and thereby creating a building that is almost an object or a piece of sculpture almost akin to a small, architectural pavilion. “A geometric pattern of vertical wooden lines serves as a ‘skin’ that divides...

I'm stalking another clever extension to an older house this time in Randwick, Sydney. With not much backyard left after extending the living spaces the new design opens to the cleverly laid out garden area. The hero piece of this small garden is the pool with its cool glass wall. Equally the stacking glass walls are a stand out allowing a seamless flow from lounging inside to alfresco dining and there is even a small patch of grass (for dog or child or mower freak). Talk about packing it all in! Link here while it lasts.

Currently on view until July 4th at the Aedes Gallery in Berlin, UNStudio‘s ‘Motion Matters’ Exhibition presents ten of UNStudio’s milestone projects, in addition to conveying their perspective on 25 years of architectural production, their current approach to architectural practice and the wider discourse that determines design challenges today. For many years UNStudio has been investigating  the potential of the temporary installation as an experimental testing ground for manifold architectural concerns and  it is these investigations that form the basis of their exhibit. More images and architects’ description after the break.

Ben van Berkel: “When we talk of ‘motion’ within architecture we not only refer to buildings and their potential effects, but also to shifts,...

Ramat Gan House 2 A Private Family Residence by Pitsou Kedem Architects DesignRulz.com

Tel Aviv-based studio Pitsou Kedem Architects has completed the Ramat Gan House 2 project in 2011. As its name suggests, this 3,770 square foot, three level, contemporary home is located in Ramat Gan, a city in the Tel Aviv District of Israel. It is a private family placed in a busy urban environment, and to escape this, the designer created an oasis secluded from the rest of the world. In essence, the house is a closed, white box, devoid of any decorative or ornamental elements. Within the “box”, long, horizontal lines have been opened which connected the house to its surroundings and which created, within the structure, a feeling as if an entire life had been frozen in time. The openings allow natural light to enter the house and also to look out into the surrounding environment or...

Brazilian architect Guilherme Torres designed the AS House in Cornélio Procópio , Brazil. An expressive architecture in terms of volume that takes advantage of the existing topography, structurally and economically wise.  Through a pragmatic, but also poetic perspective, the young Brazilian architect shows how neat and rational an elegant house can be. The 600m² house was embedded, like an uncovered box, inside 7, 5 meters high walls, which is ideal to keep the family’s privacy and security from the busy streets of this small city in south Brazil. The bedroom floors were done in cumaru wood, while white cement was used in the social areas. The furniture was oversized to receive the numerous guests:  a 7 meters long table and a 10 meters long sofa. The idea is the contrast between...

The house is situated on a quiet plot within the orderly urban development of Santo Domingo in Madrid where a compact existing housing occupying the center of the plot was the starting point, and that for economy is decided to use the existing basement which was decisive for the location of the new house. The new proposal, more extended than the compact original dwelling, clearly organizes the parcel into two areas: the first and most representative, geared towards access, and the second, more private and fragmented volumetry, endowed with activities such as swimming pool, tennis games, trampoline, outdoor dining, garden, etc..
