El pasado 11 de abril nos dejaba, a los 89 años de edad, el gran arquitecto argentino nacido en Italia, Clorindo Manuel José Testa. Hoy, apenas un mes después de su muerte, se está promoviendo la construcción de la que será su última obra, la ampliación de un comedor comunitario, proyectado hace seis meses.

On booths that make you feel from afar like you’re quick approaching the enthralled crowd around a mind blowing street performer as you come down the aisle… Oswalds Mill Audio’s ICFF booth had that effect. Only as you approach, you realize the group of (mostly guys) are clustered and staring at the beauty and silently listening to the sounds of their impressive speakers! While their loudspeakers, amps, record players, and more are all stunning, the OMA Mini’s beauty was burned into my memory ~ so naturally i had to share that with you first!Their speakers use a beautiful proprietary conical horn, “designed for the neodymium compression driver selected to achieve optimal performance, and cast in aluminum by a foundry in Pennsylvania,” and it’s perched on the woofer enclosures (either birch of bamboo), all designed by David D’Imperio, on a solid carbon steel stand! You can also pair the set up with a Mini Sub, whose face feels slightly hannibal mask like. As for the technical audio details, “The Mini is a very high efficiency speaker, at approx. 95db/1w/1m, and is 8ohm. This means you can use just about any amplifier with the Mini, from very low powered single ended triode amps (SETs) to high powered solid state amps, as the Minis uses professional drivers, not HiFi drivers, which distort at lower levels. These types of professional drivers offer far greater performance, and bullet proof reliability.They do not extend to the first octave, as hifi drivers do,...

The sense we trust the most is the sense which exposes us the least. The sense that will bring us into direct contact with life is used the least. The first is to see. What we see, we believe, but it is what we don’t see that holds the truth of what is because then it remains undistorted by our interpretation.
We think that all perception is locked within our body: The sense of seeing from the eyes, the sense of hearing from the ears, the sense of smelling from the nose, the sense of tasting from the mouth, and the sense of touch primarily from the hands. Our garden, entitled ‘outside-in’, is conceived as a visual paradox, as device that enhances such conditions in order to make the audience realize how by relying only on sight we rely on imagination, that is to say, on interpretation. In other words, how the sense of vision can become a shield that precludes us the possibility of having a holistic experience of life, one that involves the entire body and that extends beyond it...

Here’s the latest from London-based editor and resident zoologist, Justine Aw!While over at New York Design Week they have the Progetto Barrique (with the swing we loved here) with designers repurposing reclaimed casks… here in London, there’s a similar project upcycling beer barrels! This is one of my favorite projects from May Design Series, “The end of the Big Beer Barrel” from Switzerland-based Yask. The project’s premise is the retirement on 50 litre (11 gallon) stainless steel beer barrels in favor of a new smaller model. The iconic larger sized beer barrels will suddenly be retired from use and candidates for recycling or upcycling. The studio explored how these barrels might be used in variety of contexts. La Maison Annick Goutal est aujourd’hui un acteur incontournable de la Haute Parfumerie française. En 30 ans, la Maison a su se distinguer par son univers intemporel et ses créations olfactives raffinées dont les maîtres d’œuvre sont Camille Goutal et Isabelle Doyen, parfumeurs de la Maison. Avec comme fil rouge l’excellence au cœur de la création que l’agence Carré Basset s’est efforcé de retranscrire dans sa proposition.
Depuis quelque temps, la Maison souhaitait renforcer son image de prestige et d’authenticité à la française et surtout apporter un souffle de fraîcheur à son univers tout en conservant son identité. « C’est une Maison qui s’est construite autour de références devenues mythiques. Sa créatrice d’abord, sa boutique de la rue de Castiglione, ses fameux flacons « godron », le motif lierre sur les étiquettes…Il fallait garder ces pépites et en même temps réorganiser leur lecture dont la logique visuelle s’était développée de façon un peu empirique au fil du temps » souligne Franck Basset, co-fondateur de l’agence Carré Basset.
La Maison Annick Goutal en association avec Carré Basset a revisité son identité visuelle dans un esprit contemporain, en faisant le pari d’une révolution douce qui capitalise sur ses fondamentaux et son pouvoir d’émotion.

For this architect, there is an indiscernible line between art installation and building. Alexander Brodsky studied architecture in Moscow, while working on art installations and drawings both independently and in collaborations with other artists. Brodsky admits that his career path was unconventional, that he felt unready to take on the responsibility of building. Instead, Brodsky’s approach to architecture is through the lens of art: occupiable, room-sized installations that test spatial and sensory boundaries.

A new Kickstarter campaign is hoping to raise a goal of $3,500 to fund the second annual MAPEO Borderless Workshop – a workshop that focuses on community mapping and brings diverse people and minds together to think about cities within the US-Mexican border region.
