With the help aerospace engineers at EADS, Somerset, UK-based Charge Bikes have refined and expanded their 3D-printed dropout production since we first came across them last August, as evidenced by a new vid from last week. However, German IDer Ralf Holleis does them one better with the VRZ 2 Track bicycle, developed under the VORWaeRTZ moniker. (Further details on Holleis's practice are scant; from what I can determine, he's connected to the equally mysterious designlab coburg.)

The folding chair is an object that people tend to either love or hate. It can be easily stored and only brought out when needed, but it isn’t exactly pretty to look at. Designer Leo Salom has created a modern, stylish folding chair that puts that old tubular metal models to shame.

The Folding Chair, designed by Salom for Monstrans, was cut from a single piece of sustainable bamboo plywood. It has cut-out handles on either side for simple transport, and because it’s so thin it can be stacked...

The Arts Centre is building where arts and music are conceived as a pluralistic context; a meeting place, a destination and especially, an inspiring place. The project underwent numerous revisions and refinements of its content and curriculum, over several years, before arriving at its final design. The resultant building has an interesting dual relationship, where the first floor is used for music and dance, and the second floor for plastic arts. The two levels (and programmatic areas) are linked...

With his first exhibition in a museum since 1980, James Turrell will dramatically transform the sinuous curves of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Museum into one of the largest Skyspaces he has ever mounted. Opening on summer solstice, June 21, 2013, the temporary installation Aten Reign will give form museum’s central void by creating what Turrell has described as “an architecture of space created with light.”

As described in the exhibition overview: “In Aten Reign, daylight enters from the museum’s oculus, streaming down to light the deepest layer of a massive assembly suspended from the ceiling of the museum. Using a series of interlocking cones lined with LED fixtures, the installation surrounds this core of daylight with five elliptical rings of shifting, colored...

Though indebted to conventional artistic methodologies, the vibrant, playful works of Jorge Prado lack traditional notions of artistic autonomy, with multiple uses straddling sculpture, furniture and architecture. Over espresso and a cigarette in the kitchen of his Los Angeles home, Pardo shares with Oscar Tuazon his processes of transforming built environments into functionally fluid sites designed to facilitate a diversity of experience.
